really liked it

I actually listened to this as an audio book narrated by Gaiman himself, after seeing the movie and I loved this version much more.

The movie is a bit of cute childish fluff, a sweet story, but nothing more. The book has a more interesting element of darkness that does not sugar coat the violence inherent in many fantasy books. It is a story aimed at adults, featuring villains who want to cut out a character's heart and eat it, so take that as you will.

The end isn't exactly a happy ever after, but when you are no longer a child, you come to learn there is no such thing, just the moments or mortality we are given.

The book reads very well, and delves more deeply into the relm of the world beyond Wall and gives flesh and blood to the villagers.

Overall I found it to be an enjoyable read, with adventure, romance, and a pinch of darkness.
