it was amazing
bookshelves: poetry

When I look thru my library & find bks like this I feel extremely lucky to've been alive when I am & to've crossed paths w/ so many ideas & so many interesting people. The title of this bk is taken from a punning quote from French sound poet François Dufrene:

"Bob jubile et, bien sur, à la langue, Bill jubobe"

The Coach House Press has always distinguished itself w/ excellent production values & this bk is no exception. Unusually sized, nice paper, solid binding - all very crisply printed.

I've made a film entitled "Bob Cobbing". It's a film that cd be called a "cut-up" - an MO usually associated w/ William S. Burroughs & Brion Gysin. But Cobbing once told me that he was making cut-ups before those 2 guys & I believe him. Why has he gotten so little credit? My explanation is that Burroughs, esp, limited his use of the cut-up to still somewhat straight-forward narrative novelistic purposes. Ultimately, Burroughs was just non-experimental enuf to have a broad appeal. Cobbing doesn't hold back. His cut-ups pulverise language. Reduces/expands it to fields, clusters, constellations. Hence my film being named after him.

This bk is an excellent selection of his work. The diversity, the composition, the fertility. Plugging him here (& elsewhere) is my small contribution to making sure he lives on.

[September 2017 note: I've added some scans from this on my "Instagram Poetry" webpage: http://idioideo.pleintekst.nl/Instagr... ALSO, an early version of my 16mm movie partially named after Cobbing is here: https://youtu.be/OsqqA7MwdL4 ]
