liked it

I gave "The Help" 3 stars and I'll attempt to explain why. I liked the author's style but felt her depth of knowledge of the subject matter was lacking. Some parts of some of the relationships are touching and do feel "real" but mostly I was left wanting. I believe the cover (I have Kindle version) mentioned something along the lines of this book being "the next To Kill A Mockingbird"? That "review" is an insult as this book in no way compares in depth to "To Kill A Mockingbird".
I was left feeling that these stories have been told before and been told "better". The only explanation I can give for not giving it 2 stars is that it is so readable and held my interest for the four nights I stayed up late to read it. My reading time is very limited because I have young children and if I spend my precious time reading a book, well, it better at least be good. "The Help" was at least good.

Maree I liked it a lot, and I've heard that the movie is good as well. I do think of it more as a fun read with a bit of a historical fiction aspect to it rather than amazing literature. I'd in no way compare it to TKAM.
