I remember liking this book as a child, probably for the unusual setting with all the ice skating. Reading it as an adult, I didn't really see the point of it. Over half of it is simply a travelogue of and paean to Holland, as a group of boys with almost no connection to the Brinkers take a skating trip through the scenic and historic cities of the land, all of which are lovingly and endlessly described. If the book could be cut to just the Brinkers' story, it would work better and be far more interesting, though there's still not a huge amount of plot there. So, a book that didn't really work for me this time.
