really liked it
bookshelves: mystery

I like this series of books. They are set in the England of the old Roman Empire, altho they are showing a future return to Europe. Gaius Petreius Ruso is a doctor with the Roman Legions. He keeps getting involved - accidentally - in deaths that turn out to be murders. He's not content until he finds out what really happened.
In the second book in the series. In the first Ruso acquired a slave he calls Tilla since he can't pronounce her real name. In this book, he is travelling with a group of Legionaries going to the north of England to help enforce the peace. The north, incidentally, is Tilla's homeland.
The books contain humor, some surprises and are quite enjoyable reads.
