Seems like a very much less bitter Cormac in this book (or perhaps not yet bitter). It made me want to go camping on horseback through untouched wilderness. Yes it's a eulogy for a time and place and career rapidly disappearing. It was typically concise and frugal with his words, which if you are distracted means you will probably miss half of the things that happen in even one sentence and then have to re-read. I thought the love interest was cliche and not developed, would have preferred a more brokeback vibe, would have been more believable.
