I've had this book forever and never read it until now. I think the most interesting thing about it was that it was written in the midst of the civil rights era and gives an excellent description of the methods of the times that Afro Americans were asserting themselves. Though the character supports nationalism as his goal - his relationship with the other main character (the narrator) is definitely an integrationist message. OK book as a sign of the political times and I did become enamored of the characters and their lives, but the story at times was disjointed. It did have its moments of humor though as well.
