really liked it

State of Wonder has a lot of elements that I should like in a book: travel, science, and suspense. Patchett delivers on this for the most part. The story centers around a middle aged single woman who works in research for a pharmaceutical company and her travels to the S. America's tropical rain forest to investigate her colleague's death. The main issue with the book is the character development. There are a number of doctors/researchers introduced that really have no impact on the plot. In addition, some things that occur in the book seem a little contrived. I could see this as a made for TV movie perhaps.
