it was amazing

There are first collections, and then there are first collections...

Santino Prinzi's wonderful debut is an astonishing collection, a thoughtful and insightful collection, a poignant and heartfelt collection. It is all of these things and more.

The stories here, although brief, conjure in exquisite detail the minute of an astutely observed world, where everything is significant, everyone is perfectly captured with a single phrase, and the emotions that are evoked are not always happy ever after. There is bittersweet, to be sure, but there are also moments of pure joy, and I must confess I laughed out loud several times, and usually at the most inappropriate moment.

If this is any indicator, Santino's first work is a promise of many rich treasures to come. He is a writer to watch.
