I was both transfixed and at times bored with this book. I thought the book within the book, Nocturnal Animals was horrifyingly engrossing. The build up of tension made my heart miss a beat from time to time. It was engrossing, terrifying and engrossing. However the part of the book which dealt with Susan was dull in comparison. I found myself disinterested in her and her feelings about the book, her marriage, her past with the author of Nocturnal Animals and her worries about her future. Perhaps this was the point. Perhaps reading Nocturnal Animals was supposed to make her feel dull, make her realise what she had given up, perhaps that part of the book was just dull. Nevertheless, I enjoyed enough of the book to give it 4 stars.
