I enjoyed reading this book. And I think it gave me just a little insight into the Haitian culture and spirit - my heart goes out to the Haitians right now as they try to pick up the pieces after the earthquake. I thought the author did a good job of bridging the youth of Sophie and her mother later with their adult lives and the way women family members relate to each other. I found the ending to be sad and rather haunting.
