It was interesting to see which parts of this book felt timeless and which seemed dated. Roosevelt's plucky and pragmatic attitude came through, and some of the optimism, especially in dour and daunting times and circumstances, felt applicable. Some of the threats, such as socialized child-rearing and indoctrination in the Soviet Union, were interesting to observe, especially in subsequently seeing them trickle through later US policies that still reverberate today. But other parts didn't age as well - while I'm sure the approaches to gender dynamics were cutting edge at the time, it was depressing to read the stereotypes from Roosevelt, even as she tried to undercut them. And while she acknowledges her privilege, it's hard to reconcile and apply it to the average person today. Overall I enjoyed taking what I could from the book and found it useful and thought-provoking.
