a brilliant, intense collection of chronicles covering wars, revolutions and coups in the 60s-70s mainly in Africa, particularly Ghana, Congo, Algeria, but also South America and the Middle East. You really get the idea of what is/was like to be a war correspondent. HIs unique reportage at ground level is often mixed with personal reflection and biographical anecdotes; he masterly delivers moments of history as it is unfolding while giving voice to the people living in these countries. This edition also includes an interview to Kapuscinsky on his 'literature by foot'. Fantastic, highly recommended.
