really liked it

It is really amazing how little British people know or are taught about the history of the British Empire. Perhaps it has been seen as too soon after the collapse of the Empire to be able to discuss it objectively. I think it's about time we could learn about it and discuss it in the same way we can the Ottoman, or Moghul or Roman Empires. We are far more familiar with the negative aspects of the history of the British Empire and we hardly hear anything about the positive aspects. Ferguson sets out to try and redress the balance by presenting a history that discusses the positive aspects without ignoring the negative. It is an excellent work of popular history and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of our history as it is actually a page turner. As someone of Scottish, Irish and Nigerian ancestry I know that I wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the British Empire.
