This is a unique young-adult novel about the Holocaust, showing the bystander's point of view, instead of the victim/survivor's. Because the narrator is never given a name, the story takes on an Everyman feel, which is truly effective in helping to answer the question many people, including kids, ask while studying the Holocaust: how could this persecution and death happen on such a large scale?
