Considering that Obama has cited this project, the Harlem Children's Zone as worthy of replication in 20 cities in America, I thought it would be worth reading about the project. It was a mini lesson in educational theory and in economics. Thoughtfully researched, and insightful at times. However, I kept waiting for the 'shoe to drop'. I'm not sure that I quite understand Canada's obsession with Harlem when he lives in Valley Stream. I think living the reality is harder than it might seem. Canada has been 30 years in the field, and his project is still a gleam in the eye. Its a daunting task. But I wish it could be a dream realized, to break that cycle.
