The Seventh Scrolls is one of the most boring and predictable stories I have ever read. The characters are stereotypical; they reminded me of the characters of the Austin Powers movies. I do not think that was Wilbur’s intentions.

The first 100 pages are a waste of time, then the story picks up a little bit of momentum before its crashing back to an uninteresting, repetitive and tragic attempt to capture Egyptian culture and mythology.

Wilbur Smith is also referring to his other book “River God” and weaves himself into the Seventh Scroll story. Smith is doing this in the most pompous and irrelevant way. This, together with the bizarre romantic descriptions, has put me off reading any of Wilbur Smiths other books.
