This book won the Newbury? Really? This is pretty old-school young adult, even though it was written in 96. By which I mean everyone is concerned with things like half-jewish angst, visiting grandparents in Florida, picking seats on the bus, and whose dog is going to be in the school play. And excessive references to Lewis Carroll. Oh well, it's a cute enough story well written and not dumbed down. If I was still in 6th grade I'd probably think it was rather deep. I'm glad this one was only 150 pages, but I'll have to give Konigsburg's latest a try - it's actually supposed to be pretty edgy.
