"‘I need to think about it,’ I said, picturing Spock’s stern gaze. ‘I need to handle this logically.’ We slid into our chairs and Jaz gave me her patented you’re-insane-but-still-my-best-friend look. ‘Logically? Who falls in love logically?’"

Oh my, half-Vulcan heart, this book was so stinking cute!!

Vivian was ready to start a new school year. After spending several weeks lip locking with the guy she had crushed on forever, she is determined to get their relationship in the public eye, until she is let down and her heart is broken. The fix for a Trekkie nerd? Think logically like Spock! Find a new guy for her hormones to focus on with minimal zing, meaning: her heart won’t be too invested for another potential heartbreak. In her pursuit to finding the most neutral boy that doesn’t send her zing meter over a 5 out of 10 she meets Dallas, the nerd-hot new boy who sends her zing meter into a whole new galaxy. Determined not to let her heart get away with her hormones she decides that Dallas is the one guy who should not be her replacement crush, no matter how she wants to fall into his buff nerd hot arms.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I was in high school I definitely did this. Well, sort of. The whole gotta find some someone new to obsess over since it hurts too much to think of this other guy that ripped my heart into shreds. What I loved about this book was that Vivian had so many opportunities to have the guy she actually wanted but was just too stubborn to admit her own feelings. It was her own stupidity that caused herself and others heartache.

All our characters were believable and each had their own personality. Vivian was spectacular. It was refreshing not to have such an amazing hot girl who didn’t think she was hot. She was sleeper beautiful, like every girl has her own beauty. She may be a little curvy and envy the surfer girls, but what teenage girl doesn’t have esteem issues and envy another girl, heck what girl in general is 100 percent okay with her appearance? Dallas was such a cute hero for the story and the nerdy interactions he had worked so perfectly with Vivian and her Vulcan inspired mission. The nerdiness they both had just made my heart soar. Like really the book was like a huge rally call for nerds that aren’t ashamed of being, well nerdy. I was so glad that Jake never had a redeeming moment where we are like, aww he’s an actual nice guy. Because that’s life, there are some actual d-bags in real life and all his actions were plausible.

Such an adorable story pointing out that you can’t force yourself to just like someone else. Love happens when it happens and there is no helping your feelings when your heart is involved.
