This book continues the story of "Shanghai Girls", but was disappointing in comparison to the first. But it completes the story. It gets bogged down in too much dry descriptive narrative of what life was like in Mao's China, although this was an educational experience for me. The author's knowledge of her subject is extensive, but her plotline could have been a little more exciting and suspenseful.
