really liked it

Although generally not a huge fan of KV's shorter works, I really enjoyed this collection. Perhaps that is because each story was connected to war in some way, thereby making the collection as a whole more unified. The letter that he wrote to his parents after surviving and escaping Dresden is amazing!

“The very best thing you can be in life is a teacher, provided you are crazy in love with what you teach, and that your classes consist of eighteen students or fewer. Classes of eighteen students or fewer are a family, and feel and act like one.”
