Country squire Phillip is sent by his father and lady-love out into the world to acquire some polish, which he somehow does between two chapters without the reader's having a chance to observe the transformation, and then shenanigans ensue. Very silly and slight. More like the outline of a book than a fully-fleshed-out, character-rich narrative. Also, Heyer's first-person authorial interjections intrude.
