Do you ever wonder how many reviews are just based on interpersonal relationships you know nothing about? Take this chapbk, eg. It's written by someone who got married to a girl after she & I broke up. Then they broke up. Then he worked at the bkstore I cofounded. Nice guy, wdn't want to offend him. Writing reviews of bks by people you know is tough. If you absolutely love the bk then it's easy - feel free to gush. But if the bk doesn't do much for you then it's harder. I think many reviews, probably esp in the poetry world, are written more to serve the interpersonal than they are as actual critical documents of substance.

Same thing here. I really don't have much to say about this - only about the social milieu surrounding my experience of it. It's published by Rupert Wondolowski's Shattered Wig Productions - one of Baltimore's most long-lasting small press poetry (mainly) publishers, a publisher w/o funding. The publisher of the Shattered Wig Review. I'm grateful the SW exists. I'm glad to see it go on for so long (decades now). Rupert has a distinct style of writing himself, a sortof visceral existentialist scary clown outlook on urban blight, urban decay, decaying urbanity & his editorial structuring of the SW is strong. I like what he does.

The last poem in this collection begins:

Let's put the fun
back in funeral....
real fun....
Let's celebrate
this happy release,
this afterlife thing..
