A modern-day tale enhanced with historical references, set in San Francisco, New York City, Germany, Belgium, England and on an island near Greece. Verity Banks is a successful banker, already vice-president of her San Francisco bank but headed for a key position at the Federal Reserve, when her boss cancels a security project proposal and sabotages her new job offer. Furious, she decides to prove the bank needs the security she proposed - by hacking into the bank and stealing millions. Her long-time mentor in New York City has his own plan to unveil corruption, and challenges her to take the risk. Verity's good friends and loyal co-workers join her and her mentor in the challenge.

The historical segments reveal how the Rothschild family made its fortune.

Verity's eclectic friends with eccentric personalities introduce unplanned changes into the scheme. Together they all undergo a shift in their life goals and values.
