A segment of the hard-living, fast-paced music industry is brought to life by its inhabitants. Characters are portrayed peripherally through other eyes and also take center stage. When a character is placed in the spotlight, one is not introduced -- one plunges into their soul to view a series of graphic snapshots -- then click on the hyperlink to zoom in on the next character. The effect is brilliantly and mosaically kaleidoscopic. The writing is very personal, edgy and streetwise. It is splashed with humor including one of the funniest writings from jail ever (I think), which includes a segment relating an everyday event to the spooky property of photons called particle entanglement – then the jail story suddenly darkens.

So… what happened to the final 10% of the book? How did that happen? It’s not that it’s even bad or that there aren’t some poignant observations. It’s just a letdown and seems out of place with the rest (bringing the 5 star rating down to 4).
