it was amazing

Read this as a book club selection and loved it. Kind of a behind the scenes look at this time period. I was really amazed at the child mortality rate, even in the higher class families. I can't imagine losing 1/3 to 2/3 of my children before they were raised. I was also impressed by how much these women did while their husbands were "running the country." Months and years at a time with little or no contact. Makes the typical 8-5 job seem kind of sissy stuff.
