I bought this book in a bookshop in Covent Garden in London for an exorbitant fourteen pounds and I suspect that I was overcharged. It's beautiful (the cover itself, most of the writing, the story) and well conceived, but there was something lacking in the end. I appreciated the generational aspect of the story and the almost supernatural abilities of the characters, as well as the way the narrative was divided amongst letters, journals, and a general third person voice. I'm not sure what I felt it wasn't spectacular, but it just wasn't. So there.
