bookshelves: disability, made-me-think

You may have realised that I didn't rate this book. That was on purpose ... I have no idea how I would even begin to translate the utter turmoil I feel about this book into a numerical rating.

On the one hand, it did a really good job of actually portraying many of the intricacies and problems of living with disabilities (although, let's be honest, a lot of the observations Moyes spent a lot of time making were kind of obvious - to me at least), and I fell in love with most of the characters. But on the other hand, the start of the book perpetrated a bunch of harmful stereotypes and it was kind of difficult for me to get to the end without slamming the book shut in offence.

So ... majorly mixed feelings. I'll probably say more in my review / discussion post for Disability Diaries (check my blog next Wednesday if you're interested), but that will contain spoilers.
