really liked it

On reading this novel, I was surprised at how much I had forgotten about its predecessor, "Malice". For that reason, I was coming into it with such little memory of what had occurred before, and for a while I was confused. Nonetheless, these two books are anything but forgettable for the average joe.

I really admire Chris Wooding's diversity as an author. He can vary his genres so well and still pull it off like a pro. Both Malice and Havoc were so original and well put together, you'd think he'd been writing portal fantasies all of his life. The main characters could have perhaps been a tad bit more remarkable (I had the hardest time trying to recall them from the previous book), but the plot and the villains were refreshing and exciting. The ending of this duo-set was a little bit heartbreaking, but it did its best to end on a happy-ish note.

All in all, this was worth the money and worth the read!
