** spoiler alert ** This book in the series started off kind of slow for me. I really didn't like Tally being a Special. Also, by this point in the series, I was sick of Tally thinking every negative thing that happened was a result of her. Once I got into the book, though, I really enjoyed seeing the resolution that I had been waiting for all series. I love how Tally is empowered to change herself, be herself despite lesions, brainwashing, examples, whatever. It was hard to see Zane die, and it was weird to have David back in the picture so quickly. In the end, though, I think David helped highlight Tally's journey to remain herself. When he first met her as an Ugly in the smoke he thought she was beautiful, because of her courage and seriousness. When he meets her at the end of the series as a Special with control of her mind, she is "just Tally" to him. I probably will read Extras because I am curious, but I've heard the afterthought isn't as good.
