Picked this one up at the Housing Works street fair for a buck. Sad, strange story about a woman who lets her best friend's daughter die in her care and then is later arrested on suspicion of child molestation. Soooo yeah, it's a Jodi Picoult type of story, but told with a Joyce Carol Oates-ian sensibility. I would've given it 2 stars since the story was so relentless depressing but there were little glimmers of truly great writing that popped up here and there.

It's settled: unless it's King, Irving or Oates, American drama just isn't for me.
