I bought this book as a recommend from NPR books. One girl stated it was the best book she had ever read. While I cannot agree with her on that point, I do think that it's a good story. The author has obviously researched the land, culture and people of old Ireland and Galway Bay. I really enjoyed the details of the land and she was very accurate about Galway and the Connemara region, having been there several times and also heard similar stories from Sean's family. While the book itself its not all that well written, Kelly does spin a good tale of a family's hardships and endurance throughout Ireland and then onto America. If you are interested in Irish history at all or have any connection to Ireland, I think you would likely enjoy this book as a way to travel back in time and to Ireland itself. I read it in two days and it did keep my attention and the author does make you care about the characters, which again, is a sign of a good story:)
