really liked it
bookshelves: depressing, female-authors

Being the lover of depressing novels, of course I bear a great affinity for this. I found myself engaged in the veracity of her words; her life as a young woman trying to make her way as a journalist, firstly as an intern. The pride she felt as a student of literature, the goals she wanted to achieve, lovely. There is no pity to be felt for her when she is cast unawares in to the path of melancholia, because such charity of feeling is for the weak. I especially like the part where she witnesses childbirth. The reader is left to wonder if she truly rises above it though, which I appreciate.
