Even though I initially had a hard time with the first book in this series, "The Monstrumologist", I ended up liking the novel and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The language is very Victorian and very literary. You almost want to read with a dictionary (unabridged) in the other hand. I first heard of the "Wendigo" around a campfire in the northern Minnesota woods as a Scout Master. I have little campfire tale that I shared with my children when we would camp. I also read Algernon Blackwood’s short story of the mythological Wendigo, but it is this story that put more flesh and blood on the creature. A really good read -- sort of a Mary Shelley and Stephen King fusion.
