it was ok
bookshelves: fiction, magical-realism

I wanted to like this book, but the circular, repetitive writing just grated after a while. It was like listening to a drunk person. "Oh, did I tell you, the Taiga word for "panther" is "sisa"." "Yup, you told me that three pages ago." "Oh. Well it is. The Taiga word for panther is sisa." "Right. Got it. Can we get on with the story now?"

Don't get me wrong; I like tangents. I like richly described settings. But I don't like when a short story is being padded out with pretty-but-repetitive descriptions to make a novel, and that's what I felt was happening here. Which is too bad; it would have made a great short story.
