Being drawn to Southern Literature, I chose this book which is both coming of age, mystery, and a story of how lives can be changed by single incidents. It took me a while to get into the book, but having just finished I find it lingers.
It really is hard to judge -- is it really well written or are the characters just stereotypes? It is a guy book -- very few women in it and they play minor roles, but it is a story of men. Obviously, I am conflicted in recommending it, but it reads like a long hot summer day in the South - one that seems to drag but one you find you are sorry has ended.
