I learned a lot from this book and promptly passed it on to my good friend Erin. It's a history of how women have been assimilated into a "health" culture and finding themselves within a psychological corset rather than a physical one. I was really surprised to learn that Kotex pads were once considered a status symbol, and that the tampon was invented way earlier than I thought. There are excerpts from girls' diaries over the past 150 years dealing with puberty and sexual blossoming. I really loved this and I think it is a staple for anyone considering sociology or women's studies - but it's fascinating on its own as well.
