it was amazing

hands down, one of my all-time favorites. The lyricism of the prose is unparalleled, and Golden truly made me believe that I was reading the actual memoirs of a geisha (I had to research it afterwards to assure myself that it was, in fact, a fictional account written by a Western man). And for those off-put by the "geisha" in the title, rest assured that geisha are more artists than mistresses, and the book does an excellent job of portraying all aspects of the geisha's world without descending into the sordid.
