really liked it

I was leaning towards 3 stars, this was a solid 3.5 but I bumped it up to 4 for colorful characters and description. This was a far flung adventure of a young boy growing up in the late 18th century, most of it taking place on a whaling ship where he has signed on to help capture and take care of a mysterious dragon (which ends up being what we now know as the Komodo dragon, I believe) from a far flung island in Asia. The first half was engrossing and I loved the dragon hunting/capture parts. It goes downhill a bit after that and I had a hard time reading the second half. The ending was good, though, and I'd recommend it as a read for when you're in the mood for something different.
