As I read this book, I was convinced I would only rate this book with two stars. However, the heartwarming outcome is perfect for Christmas Eve, so I'll give it three stars.

I doubt I would read this book if not for the festive time of year. Set from the perspective of Bertie the beagle, the book is often a frustrating read as he cannot communicate with his owners. For the vast majority of the book, the protagonist has little agency in the events, and very little seems to happen. The pace is only maintained by dialogue, but can still seem rather slow. Nevertheless, a lovely little read if you stick through to the end.
