really liked it
bookshelves: creepy-dolls, youre-a-graphic-novel
Read on July 13, 2011

so, this is a luridly illustrated book which basically answers the question, "what if toy story 3 was not a disney movie and all those abandoned toys got their richly deserved revenge on those roughhousing kids. no, lotso, nooo!!

and also - i hope my stuffed rabbit knows that when his ear fell off, it was totally an accident.

oh, you crazy french people...

the story is good, not great, but has elements of greatness in it. but the art - i just love it. there are pages that remind me of Jim Woodring, mostly in the scenes like this:

i don't know, maybe it is just the color scheme, or my ignorance of art, but they look similar to me:

but it might also be that they both create these intensely detailed worlds of insanity and detail. and i like that in a graphic novel. i like density. this gives me plenty to look at, and lets me add another book to me "creepy dolls" shelf.

everyone wins...

karen jim woodring is verrrry trippy. sometimes he doesn't even have words, just these lunatic landscapes. very cool.

karen yeah, but fewer boobies than crumb.

Greg no, lotso, noooo!!

is this a Toy Story reference?

Bunny knows that his ear was an accident, but he is still plotting your downfall.

karen this is lotso. he is not as nice as he looks:

message 5: by Greg (new)

Greg he looks kind of like an asshole, like he'd be friendly at first but then he'd try to sodomize you or something when he gained your trust.

karen oh, so you have seen the movie. mucho sodomy.

message 7: by Greg (new)

Greg only the first one. it was playing on all the tv's at rent-a-center when Titanic wasn't showing.

Michelle Bakshi and Crumb worked together on Fritz the Cat. Double trouble...

I used to love Bakshi's Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures.

karen i don't even know who this bakshi is...

but i just read the other frenchie fantagraphics book this morning, and i liked it more than this one, even though it will also get 4 stars...

karen i used the googler, and i still don't know who he is.

karen yeah... still nothing. i have heard of cool world, but nothing else. i know the ooold mighty mouse, but i was never a fan so i guess i missed out on the "new" one. my loss...

Jessica T. wasn't cool runnings the story of the Jamaica bobsledding team?

karen yeah, i think some comments went missing, but he was in cool world, which we were discussing, and then i turned it around to cool runnings for reasons i have forgotten.
