"Ring Piece, an action/non-action meditation, went on continuously for twelve hours on November 19th, 1971, from noon to midnight, the duration of the 8th Annual New York Avant Garde Festival." & I was there! W/ my friend Pat Brown? I wd've been 18 at the time, Pat was either 17 or 18. I remember vaguely knowing who Hendricks was & being impressed by his sitting silently on a pile of dirt. His action/non-action stood out precisely b/c of its stillness in relation to the massive activity that reigned elsewhere in the Regiment Armory at 25th St & Lexington where the Festival occurred. Alotof his diary from this is about people trying to get his attn, trying to break his meditation.
