Wonderful and sad to be transported to another place and time, mythic in cowboy lore without the swagger of John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. The main character is young, but has his own honor and spirit that he stays true to, despite the repeated personal costs. So that even the small triumphs that come at the end feel heroic and more so than any number of notches on a gun belt.
