Purchased at Powells in the sale stack. I really enjoyed The Historian; this book was very different. An overlong portrait, too many details, too much of the authors own voice. Still, when you make it to the end you are rewarded with an interesting twist, 3 lives rolled up all at once. Too bad some people can't just spit out what's bothering them, though.

Jess Yeah, I was surprised at how different this book was from the Historian. I did enjoy it though. I think you can liken this story to three lazy rivers winding their way to a confluence. I didn't mind the pacing.
