really liked it

I recall reading Traveling Mercies, also by Anne Lamont, years ago and enjoying the book. Imperfect Birds is soooo good because the characters, with all their imperfections, are such good and likeable people. The novel deals with a high school girl who is deep into drugs and alcohol, and becuase she is such a "good kid," she is able to fool her mother and stepfather----for a long time. Finally, she is sent to a Utah Wilderness Camp, and though there is no definite conclusion, the reader feels all will eventually be well. The saving grace is that even will all the arguing, etc., the family members all love one another so much.

Lamont is a wonderful writer of convincing description.
