John MacArthur is one the people God has used to influence my Christian life and to move me toward pastoral ministry. I started listening to his radio program in the mid 1980's, right about the time when I started to get serious about my own walk with God. His devotion and passion for the Word of God has been a model in how I try to go about preparing a sermon. We even named our first son after Dr. MacArthur.

All that to say I was thrilled to see the release of this biography of MacArthur's life and ministry (so far). Iain Murray spoke at the first Shepherd's Conference I ever attended (2003??), and I have appreciated his historical reflections (Evangelicalism Divided) and biographies (Lloyd-Jones).

This book on John MacArthur did not disappoint. Having been an observer and unofficial student of his ministry for over 20 years, I sometimes feel I could have written a "from-a-distance" biography myself. But Murray has done an outstanding service.
