Not bad, but I prefer Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. 3.5 stars.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Jack Davenport (who I think is an excellent actor). His narration was good, and he did well with the range of foreign accents he had to tackle. Many times there are conversations between several characters each from a different country and, unfortunately, this cacophony of accents became just too much to listen to comfortably. I think I would have enjoyed the book more had I read it myself.

The best thing about the book was the world-building. I wasn't as taken with the characters but then I think a lot of that was their accents! Also, there was a character called Miguel and he kept pronouncing it Mi-gwell (it should be Mi-gel, 'gel' to rhyme with 'dell'). It was very irritating.

Overall: entertaining enough, but I would probably have enjoyed it more if I had read it to myself and so had the option to "mute" the accents!
