really liked it

Two separate murder incidents occur within a week of one another in the quiet English Peak District backcountry. Are they connected? This is the second Booth police procedural I've read and it's every bit as good as the first. The characters are extremely well-drawn, the setting vividly rendered, and the police appropriately fallable. They go down many blind alleys before arriving at the solution. This is a mystery to get lost in until the satisfying (and surprising) conclusion.

Darlene Great review, Nick! Makes me want to read the book!

Nick Duretta Thanks! I found one of the author's novels last year on the shelf of a small book exchange bookcase in a cavernous lounge inside the beautiful Manchester Town Hall while on a UK walking trip. It was great because it took place in the district in which I'd just walked the day before!

Darlene That's a fantastic story, Nick!! I recently finished a book which was set in Pittsburgh (a place I'm very familiar with) and it really makes the story come to life when you actually know the setting. I found I enjoyed the book so much more than maybe I would have if I HADN'T been familiar with the setting.
