This was so interesting, I surrendered a night of sleep and basically read it one sitting. For a non fiction, semi-scholarly book, it's kind of a page turner about how village to city migrations occur and the implications of these migrations for all of us. The author humanizes the phenomenon by introducing us to recent arrivals and telling us their individual stories. He also gives us the profiles and histories of arrival cities all over the world. It explains a lot. I live in a destination city with lots of different cultures and, I now realize, several arrival cities. I also travel and everywhere I go I run into people who have come a very long way on very few resources to live in the cities I visit. I've often wondered how they managed it. The answer is a lot more interesting than anything I would have guessed. I recommend this book for anyone who is curious about and interested in the world around them.
