Mary Higgins Clark is capable of writing better books, why she doesn't is beyond me. Every year without fail, she publishes a new title. They're good books, but they could be a lot better. I was surprised by who the guilty party was. She did a good job with the red herring. Where she did a bad job was providing a solid motive for the person who ended up being behind everything and she could have done this. Granted, she needed to keep her readers in the dark for the majority of the story, but she really should have taken the time to flesh out the true motives of the villain. Instead, she ends up rushing the end where I don't want to be rushed. I suppose in a way this is what really separates Sue Grafton from Mary Higgins Clark. It's unfortunate and it's what keeps me from buying her books when they come out, this one I borrowed from the library.

Laurie Smith Hi Joan,
Her publishing company must push her to crank out a book each year so sadly her current books don't shine as well as her original novels. But she'll always be remembered fondly for her full body of work.
